Based on feedback from all of you, we're now offering a new INNER TUBE CHECK IN! If you rent a tube, be sure to take advantage of this offer! When you're not using your rented tube you can check it back in at Aruba Tubes on the left side of the wave pool. This is a perfect way to take a break for lunch or other reasons and not have to worry about someone walking off with your tube.

Just make sure you keep your wristband on - that way we can verify that you did, in fact, rent the tube!

Exciting News!

We have exciting news to share! We will be open an extra hour each day, from August 7 to August 28. This means that our guests will be able to enjoy the park until 8pm Sunday through Thursday and until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays!

In addition, our Twilight rate ($19.99 plus tax) will now begin at 4pm every day, allowing you more hours to enjoy our reduced rate!

Junior Lifeguard Camp

We are having a blast at Junior Lifeguard Camp this summer! It's such a great environment for kids to learn first aid, water safety, team building, CPR and rescue techniques, all the while having a wonderful time. We headed off to camp this week to find out whether everyone was having fun!

Dayna Davis, our Junior Lifeguard Camp instructor, loves leading the camp! "I love teaching in an interactive environment. We turn all of the educational lessons into fun-filled activities that distract from the stigma of learning. It's awesome to see the campers learning, making friends and having a blast all at the same time! Not to mention all of the fun we have with our campers!"

Our campers have a blast too! Carley Martinette shared that she loves the time that the campers get in the park in the morning - before it's even open! "I like that we get to pick any slide we want in the morning all by ourselves, and we get to ride until the park opens. We even get to ride Neptune's Revenge before the park opens!"

Other campers enjoyed everything from riding the slides, learning how to use the "Seal-Easy" mask, and learning proper rescue techniques. There is no doubt about it - if you have a child between 9 and 15, Junior Lifeguard Camp is the place to be! Don't miss out on signing your kids up for this amazing opportunity next summer!

Junior Lifeguard Camp

As everyone may have heard (or seen by now), Ocean Breeze Waterpark was purchased in January by two former Six Flags Executives. In March, plans were announced to make some capital improvements, including the addition of a new 4 slide complex called Neptune's Revenge, and improving the children's section by replacing our concrete play structure with the all new bucket-tipping sensation, Hook's Lagoon!

Over the next week we're going to post some before and after photos, and also share some "highlights" of the construction process. We think that the park looks fabulous, and we can't wait for you to see it!

School is back in session and we are sad to say that summer is ALMOST over. There are only 2 more days left to splash and play on our 16 water slides and in our million gallon wave pool. Santa Claus is coming to town...in July! That's right, the boys and girls at beach have been so good that Santa is coming back to town for his vacation!

From July 21-25 we will be celebrating Christmas in July at Ocean Breeze Waterpark! We'll celebrate with Christmas music, crafts, games and prizes. Santa Claus will be "vacationing" at Ocean Breeze and can't wait to find out whether the kids think they've been naughty or nice so far this year. What's better than celebrating Christmas twice?...and not having to worry about the hustle and bustle of the actual holiday and with the added bonus of warm weather. And you get to do it all at Ocean Breeze Waterpark!

Todd gave me my makeover several years ago, but also painted the wave pool building when the new wave system was installed in 2001 and the Hurricane building. I think I look pretty sharp now!

We Need a Gorilla!

Hey folks! We are in need of someone to be me this summer! That's right! ME! A gorilla needs some days off, right?

Waterpark Mascot Tryouts are next Wednesday, June 9, from 4pm - 5pm. These tryouts are going on rain or shine, so make sure you come out and try out!

The tryouts are at Ocean Breeze Waterpark, so park in the main parking lot or have your ride drop you off at the front gate (sorry, no one is allowed with you at the try out). I will meet you at the gate and take you to try out when everyone arrives!

In order to be Hugh Mongous there are a few criteria that must be met:

You have to be 5'7" tall.
You need to be able to tolerate heat.
You have to be able to move well.
You need to want to be Hugh Mongous! You need the drive to entertain people and help ensure their visit is a fun one!

A few details about the try out:

You need to be here at 4pm sharp. That means a quarter to 4. Not a minute later!
Wear shorts, a t-shirt and sneakers. Please don't show up with jewelry, hats or flip flops on.
Bring a towel and a CLEAR water bottle (in order to tolerate the heat, you should probably stay hydrated).
Be prepared to show your ability to move. You will be taught several basic dance moves as a group and we will observe you as a group. You will also be taught a short series of dance moves and be asked to repeat it.
You will have a brief verbal interview with the manager or a current mascot. Be ready to share dates you will NOT be available to work, as well as WHY you think you should be Hugh Mongous.
If time allows, you will have the opportunity to try on the costume.

You must RSVP by emailing mwood@oceanbreezewaterpark.com or calling 422-4444 ext. 227 by June 9 at 9 am.

P.S. YOU DO NOT NEED EXPERIENCE TO BE HUGH MONGOUS. All the training will be provided if you are hired. To get hired you need a great attitude and you need to show that you can learn to move like Hugh. See you on the 9th!

Did You Guess?

If you guessed that a fresh coat of paint was being applied to Runaway Bay Wave Pool... you were right! In the coming weeks our pools and slides will get new paint. And eventually some water too!

It takes a lot of hard work to get the park ready to open on May 22, and all of our departments pitch in. From setting up shops to painting slides, and getting chairs set up and rafts blown up, this is truly a team effort!

In the coming weeks we'll have even more behind the scenes information. And to all of you who haven't purchased your 2010 season pass they are on sale for $64.99 until May 1st when the season pass price will increase! We are selling passes online, over the phone at 422-4444 and at Greenbrier Mall. Our hours at the mall this week are April 26-28, 3:00-8:00 and April 29-30, 10:00-9:00. Don't forget, prices increase this Saturday, so get yours now!

Happy Earth Day everyone! Today officially marks ONE MONTH until we open for the 2010 season! Let the countdown begin!

We are really excited to welcome all of our guests to the Waterpark this year. Over the next few weeks you will get to see all of the work that goes into getting Ocean Breeze Waterpark ready for a new summer of fun!

Admissions Department

Getting everyone in the park everyday takes a lot of hard work! These hard workers are the first impression our guests get when they come to the park, so it's very important to be polite, pleasant, quick and efficient.

Admissions Cashiers
Identify the needs of the customer in a quick, efficient and pleasant manner is the top priority. This experience sets the tone for the rest of the guests visit at Ocean Breeze Waterpark. Admissions cashiers need to be good listeners, have awareness of all current promotional offers and excellent cash handling skills so that the transaction can be fast, friendly and fun. Selling tickets and selling and redeeming season passes are the key responsibilities. Employees in this position work indoors in a very high paced and occasionally high stress environment. An ability to problem solve and patiently handle customer concerns is a plus. Applicants should be levelheaded, confident and approachable. Cashier experience preferred. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Gate Greeters
Welcome our guests to the park! Our gate greeters are the final entrance check point on the way into the park for our guests. This is where we complete a final verification of their tickets before their day of fun in the sun begins. Gate Greeters must be highly aware of who is coming in and going out, and very engaged and focused in their conversations with each guest. Guests have access to this staff from both outside and inside the park so employees in this role must be able to answer a broad variety of questions about the Waterpark. This gate staff also wishes guests farewell when they leave. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older and eager to be ambassadors for the Waterpark. Prior knowledge of the Waterpark is a plus.

Bag Checkers
All bags that go in to the Waterpark are checked for items that are not allowed inside, to protect the general safety and comfort of our guests. The best candidates will be able to accomplish this in a quick and effective manner while being very comfortable enforcing Waterpark rules with a smile. Employees that can make this experience less uncomfortable for our guests are highly valued. Confidence, a good sense of humor and the ability to remain calm are skills that help in this position. Bag checkers work outside in the shade and must be able to stand for the duration of their shift. Applicants should be 18 years of age or older.

Retail
Gift Shop/Candy Store
Sending our customers home with memories of their visit, and ensuring that they have everything they need during their day is the goal of the retail department. Retail employees work in our gift shop, locker rentals, candy store and inner tube rentals areas. We are looking for employees that are approachable, outgoing and excited about suggestive selling. Merchandising and maintaining sales displays and cash handling are essential parts of each position. Sales experience is preferred but if you enjoy setting up displays, are not afraid to interact with customers and you have a positive attitude, join our retail sales team.

Food and Beverage

This time of year gets incredibly busy at the Waterpark! I've been spending the last few weeks conducting interviews, painting pools, selling season passes...oh wait. No I haven't. That's what everyone else does!

Today I'm going to jump back into giving you all some ideas about different jobs at Ocean Breeze Waterpark. I'm going to cover our Food and Beverage department, which has a few exciting choices!

What's your favorite part of amusement parks? It's the food right? Juicy hamburgers, pizza, funnel cake, Dippin' Dots! So many fun and tasty options, and someone has to make them and sell them! We need Food Service Employees to prepare and cook food, serve food, set up and breakdown catering, operate carts, and complete general cleaning and stocking. All of these positions require excellent customer service, and a commitment to satisfying the customers!

We're also looking for Cabana Host/Poolside Servers to take care of our guests that have “paid for shade.” The customers expect a superior level of customer service. Our hospitality team provides food and beverage service to these cabana and poolside guests. To be a cabana server, you need to learn the menu extensively, take orders and remember them, and make sure you deliver them quickly! If you want this job you should be ready for a challenge, love to work outdoors and be eager to give these guests 110%. You need to have strong customer service skills and the ability to work as a team with food preparation staff. And you also must be 18 years of age or older.

We also need a Bartender to pour, shake and serve behind the bar at Scallywags! Our pirate themed establishment needs mixologists that can prepare drink requests efficiently and accurately. Bartenders must provide excellent customer service, maintain the bar area and support the goals of the hospitality team that provides service to cabanas and poolside guests. Previous cashier experience is preferred.

Do you want to help keep Ocean Breeze Waterpark clean? If something is dirty, unorganized or messy – do you need to fix it?

We are looking for focused and detail oriented people to do one of the most crucial jobs at the Waterpark – maintaining the appearance of the facility and grounds. Park service members responsibilities include cleaning and clearing tables, chairs, restrooms, walkways, windows and floors throughout the day. You will also be asked to return tubes, mats and life jackets to their storage positions. Weeding and raking in targeted areas may be requested. Trash collection is also a primary responsibility.

It does get hot and you do a lot of walking and standing, but it's a great job! You get to learn a lot about the park because our guests usually come to you for information. Previous experience is not required, and this position is open to 15 year olds! If you're 15 and looking for a great summer job, this is it!

Aquatics Positions

When it comes to Lifeguarding, only the most responsible candidates should apply. There is the fun aspect of being out in the sun all day, but it goes hand in hand with the responsibility of saving lives. Guest safety is the number one priority for our Lifeguards. If you apply you can expect rigorous training, which we do ourselves. You will learn safety skills, first aid and CPR. But don't expect that to be the only training you receive. Lifeguarding at Ocean Breeze Waterpark also involves daily and weekly training, but you can expect to have a lot of fun doing all of it!

Junior Lifeguard Camp focuses on teaching kids what it means to be a lifeguard! Junior Lifeguard Camp Counselors must love working with children, be considered highly responsible and dedicated to sharing their knowledge with patience and enthusiasm. Ideal candidates will be able to both perform and teach all lifeguard, CPR, and first aid skills in an engaging manner. Junior Lifeguard Camp Counselors will also be trained on sight, so previous experience is not necessary. We do require counselors to be 18 years old.

Our swim instructors promote water safety by teaching children how to be safe around water and develop their swimming skills. This is a very rewarding job, but it requires a responsible and patient person that is great with children. Excellent swimming ability is required. Experience with swim instruction is preferred, and loving working with kids is a must!

We had a MASSIVE snowstorm here in Virginia Beach last weekend. I got to enjoy the snow all by myself! I got to play in the kiddie area, make snow angels and check out all the cool snow and icicles. It was so fun, but I'm going to be honest with you, I'd really rather have a nice 90 degree day to play in the pool than a snow flurry! All my friends are around, the pools are ready to swim in, and let's be honest, I'm not exactly dressed for snow. I am anxiously counting down the days until the park opens!

We have had some crazy cold weather in Virginia Beach lately. It feels like it has been a never ending stream of cold air and wind, and it is driving me crazy! In my opinion, the biggest waste is that it's so cold, and we haven't gotten any snow! What is the point of the cold if it doesn't come with any white stuff to play in?

It has gotten so cold that some of our splash pools (you know, the pools you "splash into" at the end of a ride?) have frozen over. Our year 'round staffers decided to explore the park and the ice the other day. I guess that's one of the benefits of working at a water park - you get to have fun all summer, and you get to explore the park in the winter! It's all melted now, so they're lucky they got a chance to check it out the other day.

Cold!

It has been really cold at Ocean Breeze Waterpark this week. Really, really cold. There hasn't been any snow, but for a gorilla, it's freezing. Especially when I'm only wearing shorts, a tank top and a Hawaiian shirt. I'd like a coat, and maybe a hat and gloves, but shoes would also be helpful. Unfortunately, there aren't really any of those things in my size. Hmmmmm....

Man I can't wait for it to get warm again!

Christmas That You Missed

On Wednesday July 22, Ocean Breeze Waterpark was the site for the fourth annual Christmas That You Missed, sponsored by 97.3 The Eagle, Alion Science and Technology , and the USO of Hampton Roads.

Military families who were not together at Christmas because of deployment were able to celebrate Christmas together. Santa was on hand to take pictures, and the families were able to have an awesome time swimming! There was also a live performance by Megan Mullins! All the families who came out had a blast. It was a perfect way to celebrate and thank the men and women who serve our country and their families!

Ocean Breeze Waterpark is excited to announce Christmas in July! The event will be taking place July 25 at Ocean Breeze Waterpark, and will feature a visit from the jolly old man himself: Santa Claus!

Santa Claus and his lovely wife Mrs. Claus will be in a cabana from 12pm to 4pm. The day will also feature Christmas music, decorations, crafts, holiday activities, prizes and a Christmas window display in our gift shop courtesy of Hunt Club Farm!

The Jungle Island Adventure High Dive Show

Get ready to see some crazy animals at Ocean Breeze Waterpark! A tiger, a zebra, a leopard, a giraffe, and a monkey are invading the place (people in costumes...not real animals)! That's right everyone, the Jungle Island Adventure High Dive Show starts tomorrow! The show features music and comedy while the dive team performs their acrobatics on a trampoline, diving boards and an 80 foot ladder!

The Show arrived in town and started setting up earlier this week. The 80 foot ladder is even taller than I am! Make sure you come check out this awesome dive show, which starts tomorrow and runs until August 9th! There are 3 shows a day. The first and third shows each day are the Jungle Island High Dive Show and the second show is the Tropical Adventure High Dive Show. So you can see two different shows during the day, and the final show each day features a fire dive! Make sure you come check it out!

This is the last weekend that Bixby and Friends Presents: Rainforest Experience LIVE will be at Ocean Breeze Waterpark. There are three performances on Friday and Saturday and two on Sunday. That's right, you only have eight remaining opportunities to catch this awesome and educational show!

Bixby and his friends leave town on Sunday, and on Friday the Jungle Island Adventure Dive Show starts! This jungle themed dive show features a five-member dive team performing the antics of a tiger, zebra, leopard, giraffe, and monkey. They perform acrobatics on the trampoline, diving boards and an 80 foot ladder! So come check out this amazing show from July 10 - August 9!

The Mike and Bob Show

On Friday the Mike and Bob Show visited Ocean Breeze Waterpark! Mike and Bob can be heard every afternoon from 2-7 on 96x. The guys broadcasted live from one of our cabanas for the second year in a row. Bob Fresh even showed up in a new swimsuit and fedora he purchased just for this occasion. Slightly Overweight Richie Cunningham participated in the Cannonball contest, and we didn't even have to refill the pool. If I ever decide to join in, be ready. There will be no water left! The guys will be returning next month for the Jungle Adventure Dive Show, so come check them out while they're here!

An Interview with Bixby from Rainforest Experience: LIVE!

I recently sat down with Bixby from Bixby and Friends Presents:Rainforest Experience LIVE to discuss the show that is now appearing at Ocean Breeze Waterpark! I wanted to pass it along to you!

I’ve been to your show so many times, but for those who have yet to experience it, can you tell me what it’s all about, Bixby?
The show is a thirty-minute entertaining and educational performance about saving the rainforest. In the show my Toucan pal Treetop and I are your tour guides, trying to save the Rainforest from its destruction of 46 million acres a year. Join in the fun as I utilize magic, audience participation, comedy and live exotic animals to make an unforgettable learning experience!

What kind of animals do you have?
We have Allie the 18 foot Burmese Python, Maddie the Ring-Tailed Lemur, Jumps the Red-eyed Tree Frog, and 17 other species!

Do any of them eat bananas?
Yes, Maddie the Ring-Tailed Lemur and Tikatou the Kinkajou eat bananas.

I bet they couldn’t eat more than me though!
Well they do eat over 60 pounds combined per month.

So wait…. Do you have any bananas on you?
Of course!

The animal display is open throughout the day following our first showing and is home to our animal family.

Girl Scout Water Safety Day

Saturday was the second annual Girl Scout Water Safety Day at Ocean Breeze Waterpark! We teamed up with local Girl Scouts to teach the girls about water safety. There were lots of fun activities planned for the girls. One station was set up for them to paint with our awesome watercolor sheets. What's on these sheets you ask? Well only a picture of the coolest, most handsomest guy in town: ME!

There were also some great activities teaching them about water safety. We went over the importance of obeying lifeguards and listening to what they say through a game called "Lifeguard Says." They definitely learned that you should always swim near a lifeguard! We discussed Water Conservation and its role in the environment. Speaking of the environment, its always necessary to slather some sun screen on when you go outside, so of course we discussed that! Finally, we went over all the aspects of safe swimming and got in the pool to review them!

All You Ever Wanted to Know About Lifeguard Training

Our lifeguards at Ocean Breeze Waterpark take their jobs very seriously. Its their responsibility to keep their eyes on the water to keep the park safe.

Lifeguards start their jobs with an instructional course on lifeguarding. There is no requirement to be certified when you apply, because our guards are certified by Ellis & Associates after they are hired. Ellis & Associates may be unfamiliar to some of you, but they are extremely well known and respected within the waterpark industry. In fact, 99% of the waterparks in the United States certify their lifeguards through Ellis & Associates.

Before a guard can take the course he or she does need to pass a few tests. They must be able to swim 200 meters in 5 minutes or less and spot and retrieve a brick from a depth of 10 feet. Deep water lifeguards (guard water deeper than 4 feet) must also be able to tread water for 2 minutes while holding a 10 pound brick. After passing these tests the training begins!

Guards learn different water safety skills, including the correct way to perform water rescues and how to identify a person in need of help. They are given in depth First Aid training and spend hours learning, practicing and passing CPR certification tests. All Ocean Breeze Waterpark lifeguards are fully trained in adult, child and infant CPR.

Prior to opening day, our guards attend Lifeguard Orientation. At this orientation they are trained on how to work every position and ride in the park. Before they are permitted to work they must pass a series of written tests on their lifeguarding skills and the rules and policies for each and every ride in the park.

Lifeguard training does not end with their certification class. In fact...it is only the beginning. Our guards review and practice their CPR skills nightly. We discuss new situations and training points every day. Ellis & Associates requires 4 hours of In Service training a month, but at Ocean Breeze Waterpark we hold our Guards to a higher standard. We typically fit in 8 to 10 hours of training a month!

Throughout the summer CPR mannequins and silhouettes (flat pieces of fabric resembling a person) are hidden in pools to test the lifeguards ability to spot a person in distress. Additionally, guards are pulled from their positions and given "surprise" CPR tests to measure their abilities under pressure and in unexpected situations.

Finally, Ellis & Associates audits the lifeguarding staff periodically throughout the summer. An auditor will buy a ticket to the park and secretly watch the guard staff performing their duties throughout the day. This is Ellis' way of making sure that their standards are being upheld to the highest levels. Ocean Breeze Waterpark receives an audit score and reviews the results with the guard staff. We have already been audited once in 2009 and received an "Exceeds Standards," the highest score possible! Year after year our lifeguarding staff is given Safety Awards by Ellis & Associates for their outstanding performance.

Ocean Breeze Waterpark's number one goal is to provide a safe and fun environment for all of our guests to enjoy. Our wonderful lifeguard staff makes all of it possible!

Bixby is Here!

Last month I announced the Summer Entertainment Series at Ocean Breeze Waterpark. I am pleased to announce that Bixby and Friends Presents: Rainforest Experience LIVE is now showing! This show is free with your admission to the park, and you will love it. Bixby and his rainforest animal friends will help families learn the value of and basic ways to save the rainforest and the environment in which we live. After the show you can tour the exhibits to see even more Rainforest creatures!

Changes in the Children's Section

Over the last few weeks we've been making some pretty exciting changes to the Buccaneer Bay childrens' section. The South Seas Silly Slides were professionally landscaped. We added some new palm trees, shrubs, flowers and decorative rocks. It looks fantastic, and the palms will add some pretty neat scenery when the kids are sliding down the slides!

In the past some of guests have expressed interest in having a fence installed around the childrens' area providing greater peace of mind for parents hanging out at the park with their little ones. With that in mind, we've added fencing around the entire Buccaneer Bay area! We're really pleased with how it turned out, and we're happy to bring our guests something that they've requested!

The New and Improved Treasure Chest!

Over the last few weeks our candy shop, The Treasure Chest, has undergone some major renovations. There's new paint throughout, as well as a new floor. We've also added a new counter and new display cases. I think I've already mentioned the new addition that is my personal favorite....the chocolate covered frozen bananas.

Ocean Breeze Waterpark is excited to announce our Summer Entertainment for 2009. For the first time ever, we will be hosting live entertainment everyday starting June 5, 2009.

Bixby and Friends Presents: Rainforest Experience LIVE

Bixby invites audiences to join him on an adventure of a lifetime as he tries to save the rainforest. Special appearances are made by Bixby’s many rainforest animal friends including: Treetop the singing toucan, Allie the 18-foot Albino Burmese python, Archie the two-toed Sloth, Maddie the endangered Ring-tailed Lemur, and Jumps the Red-Eyed Tree frog.

Through the use of magic, comedy, audience participation, and a collection of exotic animals, Bixby and Friends Presents: Rainforest Experience LIVE will help families learn the value of and basic ways to save the rainforest and the environment in which we live. It will be an educational and entertaining event that your family will never forget!

The Jungle Island Adventure High Dive Show

This jungle themed spectacular, features a five-member dive team performing the antics of a tiger, zebra, leopard, giraffe, and monkey. You will be thrilled and amazed as they perform their acrobatics on the trampoline, diving boards and an 80 foot ladder!

Gorillas Can Give Blood Too

Last weekend Ocean Breeze Waterpark hosted a Blood Drive for the American Red Cross in our parking lot! It was the first time we've ever held a Blood Drive at the park and it was a success. I gave blood myself, and I particularly enjoyed the banana I was given after donating!

Paint on the Inside

While Ocean Breeze Waterpark is made up mostly of water slides, pools and lounge chairs, there's also lots of interior space too! Right now we're working on getting our gift shop, Island Trader, and the candy shop, The Treasure Chest, ready to open.

While the park is open, Island Trader is the place to come if you're looking for Ocean Breeze Waterpark souvenirs. We also offer bathing suits, T-shirts and footwear (flip flops and water shoes) for adults and kids. If you're looking for something special to help your Little One remember their great day at Buccaneer Bay, we have Pirate Souvenirs on hand too. We're also well stocked with towels, film, magazines, jewelry and goggles!

If you're looking for drinks or ice cream, you can visit Island Trader or The Treasure Chest!

In addition to drinks and ice cream, The Treasure Chest also offers a wide variety of candy. This year we'll also keep fudge and caramel apples in stock for the first time ever! If you have a sweet tooth, stop in and your craving will be fed. I love to go in and snack on our brand new chocolate covered bananas! Delicious!

Pressure Washing and Painting

There's a lot of activity going on these days at Ocean Breeze Waterpark! Our maintenance crew is now working hard to get Runaway Bay Wave Pool ready for Opening Day. They start prepping the pool by pressure washing, and the pool then receives a fresh coat of paint. Getting the pools ready is just one task that goes into getting the park up and running. Over the next three weeks, I'll be sharing more behind the scenes photos and information leading up to Opening Day. Is there anything you'd like to know? Bikers For Tykes and Troops

I had a blast hanging out at the Bikers for Tykes and Troops Motorcycle Rally last weekend! The weather was perfect, and everyone had a great time...including me! Bikers for Tykes and Troops

This weekend Ocean Breeze Waterpark is sponsoring the 2009 Bikers for Tykes & Troops Motorcycle Rally. The event raises money for The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters and the USO of Hampton Roads, and is taking place at KOA Campgrounds in Virginia Beach, VA. There are a variety of bands performing throughout the weekend, a motorcycle ride and much more! Visit the event's website for more details and a definitive schedule of all the weekend's activities!

Painting!

One part of the prep work that goes into getting Ocean Breeze Waterpark ready to open each May is painting. Lots of painting! A lot of the pools and slides get a fresh coat every year. One of the amazing things about Pirates' Plummet and Walk the Plank (our newest slides) is that they do not need to be painted yearly.

The weather in Virginia Beach has been perfect for painting, so our maintenance staff got to work on the Activity Pool Here are a few shots of the work!

Pre-Season Work!

As we get closer to May 16, 2009, we have more work to do to get the park ready for Opening Day! Here are some Behind the Scenes photos of the pre-season work!

Here's Runaway Bay Wave Pool. It's empty now, but after a fresh coat of paint and about a million gallons of water, it'll be ready for waves!
The crew is busy constructing new stairs from the bottom of "The Hill" to the top! In this picture are Largo Loop (the green and orange slides) and the two slides constructed during our 2008 season, Walk the Plank and Pirates' Plummet.
